David Cerullo, INSP & The Inspiration Networks

In 1990, Cerullo combined his strong business skills with his passion for ministry when he became president and chief executive officer of INSP – The Inspiration Network, at the time a fledgling cable television network.  Acquired out of bankruptcy, the network had only five employees and no distribution contracts; and its satellite transponder lease was expiring.

From these inauspicious beginnings, Cerullo recruited a staff of respected, experienced industry professionals, and put the organization on solid financial and operational footing. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from one network to a family of networks and media outlets available worldwide through various distribution platforms.

INSP has become one of the fastest-growing networks in the U.S., now available in more than 75 million HH throughout the U.S. In 2009, INSP became the first network to receive national ratings from Rentrak (which pioneered audience measurement using Set Top Box technology). In 2010, INSP became a Nielsen client as well. Demonstrating the network’s growing stature, INSP ranked 15th in growth percentage among the 110 networks measured by Nielsen (comparing March 2012 with March 2013).

The company serves the growing Spanish-speaking audience through its family network, LFC La Familia (LFC). Its international network (Inspiration TV) is available in more than 100 million homes throughout 150 nations, delivered through a complex matrix of satellite, fiber, and cable distribution to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, much of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

David Cerullo the Visionary

Reflecting his experience in construction and studio production/design, Cerullo oversaw the development of MediaComm, the company’s wholly-owned production subsidiary. MediaComm includes a state-of-the-art studio complex (with a full-range of graphics, editing, and production capabilities). Its clients that have included Bank of America, Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Bobcats, Fox Sports, NASCAR Images, and hundreds of national, regional, and local companies.  MediaComm provides uplinking and fiber delivery for INSP and other networks/clients.

In January 2006, Cerullo announced that the company was building a new headquarters (called the “City of Light”) on 93 acres in Lancaster County, South Carolina (located 10 miles south of Charlotte, NC). The groundbreaking for this multi-year project took place in November 2006. The first building to be completed was the WorldReach Center (with administrative offices), occupied in February 2008. The International Prayer and Welcome Center was completed in February 2009, and a grand opening celebration took place in March 2009, marking the conclusion of Phase I.

Cerullo was responsible for all aspects of the City of Light from assembling the various parcels of land to the selection process of a world class architectural firm (Little Diversified Concepts) and the general contractor (BEK), to all aspects of the design.

The City of Light has become a resource for the greater Charlotte community. Its auditorium has been donated to local high school and middle school for concerts. Local civic groups have held functions including the county-wide “Indian Land Fall Festival.” For three years, it has donated land to local youth leagues for use as soccer fields.

Under his direction, the organization has become active in support of veterans. One of Cerullo’s initiatives was the creation and development of INSP’s “Moments” campaign: Short, inspiring ‘programs’ include a series of spots honoring veterans. In particular, its “Thank You for Your Service” production generated enthusiastic support from military and veteran’s organizations. The U.S. Department of Defense featured this spot on their Vietnam Commemoration website. It was featured at the 2012 American Legion national convention with 10,000 attendees and at the USAA Veteran’s Day ceremony in San Antonio, TX. INSP is in production on a new series, “Moments of Valor,” a joint partnership with the Medal of Honor Foundation. In addition to being featured on INSP, the production has been showcased on the nationally syndicated daytime program “The View.”

David Cerullo is a member of the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) and serves on its Programming Committee. He also is a member of the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing, and the National Association of Television Program Executives, and served on the board of the National Religious Broadcasters Association for over ten years.
